BP-02 Low Mount on Yugo Underfolder

I have heard that side mounts do not work properly with underfolders. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm looking at getting the weaver low-mount (http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/bstmounts.html) to put a red dot on.

Also, if anyone could help a new AK-owner out with letting me know which of the rails (from the tantal website) I would need to get in order to mount the bracket properly.

The Yugo AK uses a completely different rail and scope mount. There is a Yugo one available that is a bit different looking from the factory mounted ones but is said to made in Yugoslavia and may be a newer design. The rail is made from Aluminum. It sits thinner and higher on the receiver to clear the underfolder stock,

May be able to but the Yugo rail and mount here.

Another new guy question:

Will I need a gunsmith to install the rail, or is it something that is hard to screw up on your own. I'm fairly new to the gun world, so I have limited knowledge of these things.

Yes a gunsmith or somebody that knows how to install the Yugo rail should do it. It's a lot of work and easy to screw up, both the rail and rifle.

One last newbie question:

The description on the P-A Distributing website says that it accepts all PSO optics, but the Tantal website lists the weaver low-mount rail as SPO. I'm assuming this is the same thing. Am I correct in that assumption?

They may fiit. Make sure only get the low mount as the Yugo rail is higher on the receiver. Here is a US made weaver monut for the Yugo rail that might still be for sale. K-var no longer sells the KV-02 mount.
