my new Yugo RPK !! (not a Century build)

here is my new matching numbers Yugo (non Century built) RPK. the wood was soaked and stained real bad by oil and after failed attempts to extract the oil i just decided to darken the entire furniture set. i got out all the oil i could then took my propane torch and lightly scorched everything evenly, then i sanded lightly with 150 then 220 grit sandpaper, then i scorched the set more heavily but evenly and hit it again with 220 grit, then did a final scorching. after i achieved the level of dark brown that i wanted, i let the wood cool and then put on a light coat of tru-oil and let it dry. looks great in person. i prefer a darker finish and this lil project turned out exactly as i had hoped. opinions?

Looks good. Did this reduce the sharpness of the wood stamps by much???? I want to do something similar and have carvings.

thanks for the kind words ! the sanding did reduce the sharpness of the serial numbers on the opposite side, but thats b/c i really didnt take much care to preserve them and even at that, they are still very readable and prominent. If i had any carvings or designs, id be careful with the sander but just for the ser#, it wasnt a big deal.

Looks good is that a dci receiver and what kind of finish is that ,a guy on the marketplace has original yugo slings shipped for 22 dollars Iam planning on picking up 2 this week I built 2 of them and couldnt really do much with the wood especially the lower handguard it was soaked.

it is a DCI recvr, and the finish is a flat black gun kote or something very close to that. as for slings, i contacted a member here and ill be getting a real deal russian RPK sling in a week or two.
