View Thread: Starting my galil build...

I've got my ORF receiver.
Ive got my ARM kit.
Ive got my Tapco G2 set.
I've got a Hotbarrel piston.
I've got a Ace PG.

I am ready to get started here. I've read up a bit on builds, referenced a bunch of different sources on the net.

I figure on starting with the mag catch, the stock, fitting the trigger group, etc.

I test fitted the carrier and it looks as if the radius cut is correct, it butts right up against the cut.

The GM barrell I have already has the extractor cut, and hand times to about 11 o'clock.

The only part that sort of has be second guessing myself is getting the barrel torqued and headspaced correctly, setting the gas block and drilling the gas port. I think I can get it though, with patience and some minor investment in the required tool/ing that I dont already have.

However, I need to find a new trigger guard, the one that came with the kit got jacked up in the demil process, and I'm debating a new blast cabinet so I can get better prep on the parts before I start assembly.

Wish me luck! I'll need it, because this is the first of two or three that I hope to get together before I get to go on my summer vacation in the sandbox.

Your barrel is probably over timed to begin with. you want it somewhere between 9-10 in order to tighten up at 12.

no need to prep any parts prior to build.

BigAl,

Did you recut the radius where the carrier butts up against the receiver? Or did you have small gaps on either side?

The rifle is over at the shop so I can't look, but I believe you will end up with a gap on the drivers side. remove the bolt and see if it changes anything.

I did it without the bolt, still had a small gap, maybe 1/8". The right side is flush though and fits pretty well.

Since the ORF receiver will most likely not allow the bolt lugs to seat evenly, you'll have to correct this problem before mounting your barrel and headspacing...

I got the stock mounted, teh trigger guard and mag catch are riveted on as well. Thanks to teh wife for teh extra hand reassemblingthe mag catch!

Now, the bad. I;ve got 2 new orlite mags and one steel mag thats worn but straight. All three have what I think is alot of play sid to side and some up and down movement as well.

Out of spec receiver? How to correct this?
Thanks as always!

BigAl
my steel and orlite all fit tight. all were new mags.
