View Full Version : Century AES-10B Questions

I just purchased a new Century AES-10B today when I followed my coworker to the fun shop. We brought it to the Bookcliffs BLM range this afternoon and it proved to be an accurate shooter on the 100m 2' gong.

1. Is there an easy way to finish the furniture? I'm not much of a woodworker, so I was wondering if a few coats of tru-oil or paste wax could go a long way in shining up the laminate stock and HG's.

2. Also, what would be the best muzzle break to screw on the front? I'm looking for something to kill the muzzle rise for target holdover.

3. Do you think the muzzle threads are true enough to hold a noise suppressor (silencer)?

4. How much glass would be enough for this rifle? I have a BP-02 mount that could hold a Trilux SUIT or a 3-9x50 Weaver grand slam. I think this could a very accurate rifle with the right handloads. Should I just get another BP-02 mount?

5. Is the PKMS stock a direct replacement for the clubfoot, or does it need to be refit for the rear trunion tang?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I'll address the wood question.......use Iodine to stain the wood then give it 2 to 3 coats of amber shellac.....comes out to a near perfect match for Soviet wood.

This was originally designed to be fired from the bipod or sling. Primarily designed as an "area weapon" as opposed to a 'point weapon'. Not sure how you were firing it, but I doubt you'll get any muzzle rise from the bipod.

5. Is the PKMS stock a direct replacement for the clubfoot, or does it need to be refit for the rear trunion tang? Any standard Kalashnikov buttstock that is designed for the 1.6mm receiver will work.

So generic betadine (iodine antiseptic) and a few coats of zinssers will accomplish the task?

Also, was there a standard optic for the RPK, or was the side scope rail more of a civillian market enhancement.

Yep..might want to clean the wood up a bit (light sanding) then stain & shellac.

RPK's with scope rails (not so common) were used mainly with night vision scopes. I would agree that the AES-10B rail is strictly a civilian market enhancement.

you can strip the stock and use plain shellac per the instructions on the can to achieve an authentic Romanian finish.

you can mount any optics you want on the rifle, but i think you find it takes some of the fun out of it because it is not that accurate of a shooter.

I've noticed that. I had to give the FSB a few whacks to the left to straighten it out.

the scope rail is a recent military modification.

there are plenty of photographs out there to support this.
