Do the recoil pad that add 1" to the stock help much? As most I find
the stock too short.

They make it 1" longer, if that's your question. They're solid
rubber, so they don't soak up much recoil, but that shouldn't
be a problem.
For CQB, you need to learn to keep your weapon in close
and tight. If you're not using it for that, get a stock that's
longer. It won't look authentic, but no longer stock can.
I made a couple of nice "AK" stocks out of Bulgarian
thumbhole stocks that I found cheap. Cut the hole out
and shape the stock up till it looks as much like an AK
stock as it's going to get. Not only will it have a longer
pull, it will also have a US-sized buttplate. I took off enough
wood that I had to cut down the plastic stock a little, but
if it's not long enough you could put a recoil pad on it to
make it a little longer.
