I saw something posted about y'all making one soon? Can you elaborate on that or is that something we have to wait till Shot Show for? If you were to make it what mag do you think it would use?

Just FYI, polish & Bulgarian 223 mags go for over $40ea regularly... there’s a market for a us made decently priced mag

While the AR mag adapter thing is out there, and everybody would love to use thier existing mags. That doesn’t bode well for your prospective future mag sales... does it? Competing with everybody to sell a super cheap, low profit mag?

Opportunity... to make a mag that fits all the hard to find 223’s. Vepr, saiga, bulgy, polish, etc. volume would be pretty good, and who else is doing it?

I'm just saying, if the price is right, I'm getting one as long as the trunnions and bolts are forged. I will also be shooting the snot out of it and will let the guys know an honest report. I hope it's going to be a great rifle. Then, I'm going to get another one for the safe.

Heck, my office is 5 mins from your store in Irmo.

For the 5.56 AK, barrel steel will be 4150, and they will be nitrided. The BCG and Trunion will be forged. The price will be around $600-$650 depending on the model. Full production is estimated to be in 30-45 days.

Specs on the 9mm AK will be released approximately 30-60 days after the 5.56 is in full production, in case anyone is wondering.

I haven’t seen it mentioned before, is the 556 going to have a LRBHO?

I’ll be impressed if the PSA has LRHO.
Personally I’d skip it and stick with a standard thin stem 74 bolt and try not to make too many parts proprietary.
I have a Saiga .223 and while I prefer my SGM mags to AR mags and an adaptor, this makes sense. Will appeal to AR guys that want to use their existing mags.

And hey, I’ll bet the D60 drum fits!

I might think about one of these because it uses AR mags. I wouldn't be interested in it if it would use AK-style mag. I think it has been established already that AK mags in 556Nato don't in the most part interchange between different AK 556 rifles?

From the Firearm Blog, "Just like the PSAK-9, the PSAK 5.56 will retail at just $699. At the moment both rifles will be threaded 14×1 LH just like a typical AK-47. "

Based on this thread it sounds like initial selling price may be closer to $650 ($600-$650 prob means $649 LOL).

Also FWIW the TFB writer said he could reach the mag release w his trigger finger on the 5.56 AK, but that it was too far to reach it on the 9mm version.

The part that locks the mag in place is at a 45 deg angle( \ ). On a AR mag the slot to lock it in is cut flat straight across( - ). Unless there is something on the inside that we can't see I don't see how it would hold a standard AR mag in place. I am guessing but maybe there is a button built onto the bar that fits the locking slot. That would make scene. I think I just figured it out.

Could you please address one of the previously asked questions regarding the 5.56 versions magwel? There seemed to be some confusion as to whether a user would have to modify a currently used NATO type 5. 56 magazine for use in your AK chambered in 5.56. Something about how the mag appears to be inserted into the magwel at a different degree from how it's inserted into the magwel of an AR.

I'm not sure why you guys are making any sort of ruckus about this.

For PSA to intentionally produce a firearm that "accepts STANAG mags" and then require those mags be modified to work is simply ludicrous.

The firearms being shown are early pre-production samples, and sh**'s subject to change.

I have to say I am quite interested in the PSAK-556 BUT while there is certainly a rush to get it to market I would caution to get the process and QC straight FIRST even if volume suffers. The PSAK47 GB2 initial roll-out seems to have not handled that part adequately and thus caused a lot of angry and frustrated customers and tarnished the PSA reputation a bit. QC QC QC!!!

I don't want that BS on my AKs. Rifle is fine.
The only thing I see it being useful for is showing that you're clear to the range officer. That can just as easily be accomplished by using an empty case as a chamber flag.

It's a nice thing IMO to be able to hold the bolt open if you want to do something like run a patch down the tube before going to the range. No tear down involved.

I hope that the mag adaptor has enough clearance for the D60 drums.

I know it sounds dumb, but ask anyone with a BCM lower that won't take a gen III PMAG with the over-insertion tab.

hey PSA, is the firing pin on this 5.56 AK gonna have a spring like my Saiga .223 or free travel like an Ak-74?

It still should be 30-60 days, but as our order volume has tripled in the past few weeks, it takes resources to try to just maintain with the increase. We are working on it though, and are still about 30-60 days.

Thank you!

Josiah

Kick ass. Tripled order volume means more evil guns in the hands of patriots:sidegrin_:sidegrin_:evil:

@mazroth

Thank you for your interest!

Josiah

It is now May. Hows the 5.56 coming?

Which store should I keep bugging? Blythewood or the one in Irmo?

I ask every time I go in either. The guys at the counters either don't know, or they are very good at keeping a secret :small_gri

Are we safe to use a standard suppressor (non Ak-specific) or will there be possible concentricity issues like a lot of x39 AK’s?

Are the important components like the bolt group and trunnions com block parts that you guys import or do you guys make them?

You should definitely sell a model of the 5.56 with an ar buffer tube

We use modern machinery, so there will not be any concentricity issues. The thread pitch will be 14 x 1 LH.

5 more days to go in this month and well past 60 days. Planned on building an AR pistol via the Memorial Day sale, but have been holding off to see what these look like and cost... Would be nice if these came out on Memorial Day, but I doubt it.

They're going to sell out of whatever little stock they do have pretty quickly. I doubt that it'd be worth it for them. It would be nice though... Or give Files members a free shipping code :small_gri

Thanks for the reply. I just seen the video below and I rather have the AK in 9mm that takes HK or Glock mags. Are those going to be released with the 5.56 Aks?

Agreed! Even with imports drying up, there are still a plethora of AKs foreign and domestic currently on the market for us to choose from. 5.56 and 9mm AK pistols, not so much. Matter of fact, don't believe that there are any 5.56 AK pistols on the market as of now, but I maybe wrong.

IF they turn out to get good reviews here on the akfiles I will buy one....and a second one for backup parts and such.

Price point advertised looks decent - providing that quality is not compromised to get down to this price point, of course.

If there turn out to be problems with them, everybody on the akfiles will know about it within a week.

If people on the files give them a good report, on the other hand, then you will be flooded with orders from akfiles members. Ha. Ha. Ha.
