View Thread: New Cause of sticky bolt

akajun
Was shooting my new 91/30 hex reciever the other day for the first time. I was using some brass cased Bulgy Heavy ball with the yellow tip and was getting a sticky bolt on the extraction, but it was only sticky at the top of the bolt twist. The ejected cases had two gouges on them near the base.

Upon further inspection there were two small burs at the back of the barrel . I polished them off with a dremel with a flex shaft. Hopefully that will fix the problem and Ill post an update at after the next range section.

Most of my sticky bolt issues disappeared when I switched to the Bulgarian brass-cased ammo. I like it so much I bought 12 cases of it. I hope I never run out.

Shot it today with Bulgy Yellow Tip Heavy Ball and some Steel case of unkown origin. Bolt worked fine.

I agree completely with My-rifle, same here. Had 6 or 8 of all russian variants 44's, 38's and 91/30's sticking like crazy with the laquered stuff. Haven't had an issue since switching to the bulgarian, Privi and or the Sellier and Bellot for hunting. With the Bugly at $128 bucks for 900 rounds you can't go wrong. 14 cents a round and it comes sealed forevereeee :D
