I just picked up a like new Mosin 1946 M44 from Big 5 and bought this mounting rail for it http://cgi.ebay.com/NO-GUNSMITHING-MOSIN-NAGANT-SCOPE-MOUNT-FITS-M44-91-38_W0QQitemZ300183711902QQihZ020QQcategoryZ52511QQcmdZViewItem
Its the PICATINNY 7/8" rail that mounts on the rear sight. I did not want to cut into my Mosin mounting a rear site. Anyway does anybody know what rings and pistol scope would work well with this setup? I mean do you buy the rings to fit the scope or the scope to fit the rings? Thanks.

Most reasonable scope is NC Star 2-7x32 Long eye relief scope. You will need Long eye relief and it takes a little getting used to.Scope (and mounts I think) is about $60.00..available from CrankyFarmer.com.
Sighting them in is an adventure also!
More expensive scopes ..Burris,etc are available if price is no object :small_gri

Are the nc star scopes any goood? I just bought a Nikon Buckmaster for my Tikka T3 but do not want to spend that kind of money on the Mosin at this time. Something around the $50-$75 sound good for a $90 gun.

NC Star is an inexpensive scope made in China. I bought one to put on a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington a few years ago. I wasn’t sure I was going to keep the gun and just needed something to work some loads up. The optics are surprisingly good , especially considering the price and its holds a zero fine. It is heavy for its size. The gun ended up being a sub MOA shooter, and the scope is holding up fine even with stiff handloads.

ya I don't expect to get some great scope for around $50. A nc star may be fine. I also heard BSA makes some decent inexpensive scopes. They seem to be about the same price. Anybody have and ideas about which may be better?

I'm prety sure they don't make one..not everyone does(LER).Let me know if you find one.I'm gonna put a Darrel's scope mount and LEr scope on a 91/30 when I get it.

How Well Do theses Scope Mounts Work ?

I don't have any experience with either type yet.I have heard that the inexpensive mounts have trouble holding zero.Darrel's scope mounts make a good one,but he didn't have any ready before XMAS :cry_small .He should have some ready soon.
His have very good reviews and are around $60.00 or so..Google him for info.
I don't even have a 91/30 yet but am going ahead and getting the mount and scope while I wait for my C&R.
My enfield Mk2(308) with scout mount is a tack driver.

I ordered a 2.5x30 nc star scope with rings off ebay for $43.95 delivered. The BSA scops only seems available in 2x20 which might be ok. Also I will try the cheap mounting system for now and maybe go for the nice one if I have problems keeping it lined up. All in all for around $150 to have a nice high powered scoped rifle thats not too bad. Thanks for the advise.

Make that $200 due to the ati stock. Oh well. It was bound to happen.
