Just curious if anyone knowns if the Russian underfold has enough clearance to allow for a standard side-rail. If not, can enough of the underfold-arm be trimmed off to allow clearance without making the stock too weak?

I've been drooling over the nicer condition PLO underfold kits that I've seen for sale, and I've been seriously considering getting one and building it up after September 13th.

I haven't spotted a full-stock PLO AKM that is in as good of condition as the underfolders, and the full-stocks have the ugly plastic PG instead of the nice wooden one that the underfolders come with.

IMO: it would weaken the rails too much. I strongly considered one myself and opted against it. If I do it will be the gas tube mounting, unless someone comes up with a Polish tantal type mount. Best Regards Scott

the reason the east block countrys went to side folders was for the clearance problem. The underfolder was great idea for paratroopers and tankers. Side folders replaced it- this is according to the Army weapons class I got in NTC, cal. in 1999. If you think a ak is fun try a Scorpion in 7.62x25 on full auto- Army=free ammo.

I looked into the underfolder for a Saiga I was told that
you really can not use a underfolder and scope rail. Which is a shame because I like a scope. I'm going to have a rommian underfolder built. Just ordered a reciever today.
