Is it true were were only 400 of these rifles made? I have one unfired NIB s# is 040278, is this the 278th rifle made in the second run? What is the going rate for this firearm? Thank you for your help.

can anyone inform of how many rifles were produced?

It's been a while, but 400 sounds correct. They typically run lots of 200 on their rifles, and occasionally do a 2nd run if the 1st did well. The value of the SF is in line with the SAS-M7. Since yours in NIB, it could fetch anywhere from $1200 - $1400 depending upon the buyer. I would start at $1400, and come down $50 every couple weeks until $1200, but no less than that. The good neew is that your rifle may appreciate in value to $1500 by mid-to-late next year when all the milled Arsenal folders have dried up.

You can call Arsenal if you need confirmation on the serial number, but I believe you are correct on the rifle number, and I think the 04 is the year of manufacture. Production probably start right after the AWB ended in 04.

Thank you recon-1 I have contacted ARSENAL two days ago with no response. Over that time I have scoured the net. Any info is appreciated.

I beleive that you guys are correct as your serial number 040278 means that the receiver was made in 2004 and if they only made 200 on the first run then yours was the 78th one off the production line in the second run.
On all Arsenal milled receivers made in the US the first 2 digits in the serial number are the year that the receiver was made.
In the past several months I have seen alot of new milled Arsenals with the first two digits of 05 so they made alot of receivers that year.
Hope that helps.

I got a chuckle out of reading the posts about contacting Arsenal. And no surprise about not getting a response. I have a friend living in Las Vegas and he has told me they are a bit restrained with their visibility.

Years ago he looked in the Vegas phone book and Arsenal had a phone number local listing and address. The location was in the industrial park out by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He drove around the industrial complex and could not find it. So, he called them with the listed phone number. The Arsenal guy whom answered the phone got a bit bent with my friend. "How did you get this phone number?" asked in a hostile manner. My friend responded that it was listed in the phone book.

The Arsenal response was that he was using the wrong phone number and was given an "800" number to call.

When my friend asked for details in where they could be found in the industrial park. It again elicited a hostile response to the effect that they don't want to be found by the public. LOL

My friend has done business with various firearms dealers in Vegas, with whom the dealers have done business with Arsenal, and was told of stories about how secretive Arsenal is with its customers.

One story related was with how Arsenal would deliver products to its clients: It was done at night in a parking lot location miles away from Arsenal's location. Products would be taken out of a trunk of a vehicle delivering the Arsenal products, and placed in trunk of the customer's vehicle.

It was surmised that Arsenal behaved that way from its Bulgarian roots . . . that's the way former Com-bloc countries felt comfortable with doing business. LOL

Yet, my same friend had no problems with locating Vector Arms in North Salt Lake City. They had an open door policy, and he even bought a rifle from them on-the-spot.
