View Thread: newbie building a krink pistol

I have a friend with krink building experience helping me with this pistol build, but I have a legal question that needs clarification. My local sheriff wont sign for a SBR so I was wondering, is it legal to purchase a yugo M92 receiver that has the holes for an underfolder stock, but have it registered as a pistol? My logic being, that I can leave the buttstock off and plug the holes until I someday move into another county that will allow SBR's. This would save me the trouble of having to cut out the holes later on, aswell as coming up with a new way to attach my sling. I will be using a NoDak Spud reciever NDS-M92 if this is legal, if not I've been told the NDS-1 will work in its place. Any help, thoughts and/or comments are appreciated guys. Thanks!

welcome to the board :)

screw all that, just go ahead and do a revokable trust, that would negate you from needing to obtain a CLEO signature........just double check that your state AS WELL AS LOCAL LAW does not prohibit you from owning a SBR.......then when you get your approved form 1 back, build it as a SBR from the git go.

Thanks! I'd could possibly do a revokable trust and its been recommended to me before by friends, but none of them have knowledge of the procedure and how much its costs. Could you tell me what all is involved? A lawyer is needed I'm sure, whats a reasonable fee for his/her services? SBR's are allowed in my area, despite the fact that I can not get the signatures for one. An acquaintance of mine lives one county over and owns several SBR's and has no problem obtaining the signatures from his local sheriff. Thanks for the quick reply.

I can't tell you how to go about making a trust for your state.........each state is going to be different on how to make one, so how it is done in one state, may not be correct for yours. Some folks have been getting a a estate planning packets and do that on their own.

I have no issues with getting my chief to sign my form 1s.......but, if i had to do the trust route I would find a estate lawyer to do one........some estate lawyers will have a set fee to do a simple non complicated trust, my advice call around on estate lawyers in your area and see what a simple trust would cost to set up.

Sounds like a plan. If the revokable trust turns out to be something that isnt worth pursuing, what about purchasing a yugo reciever with the holes for an underfolder.....and just leaving the stock off and plugging the holes in the rear trunion with the original underfolding mechanism. Would the fact that the holes are there be illegal if I register it as a pistol receiver?

a trust is always a good thing to have, a trust never expires......you can add all sorts of things to it, car, property etc...as you aquire stuff and want to pass it to someone , it's not just for bypassing the CLEO signature

it very might likely viewed as "intent", just like if you go and drill a auto sear hole in a receiver, and put a rivet in it, to plug it, to the ATF that was intent to make a machine gun . or it could be viewed as you took a rifle receiver and "converted" it to a pistol........me personally, I would not do it, if I was going to go the pistol route I would get a receiver that in no way shape or form would not have any kind of indication that a stock can be put on...using a underfolder receiver to built a pistol on would raise a lot of eyebrows, and may put in a position you don't ever want to find yourself in.

Sounds logical. I'll do more research on the trust and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the help.
