View Thread: Receiver differences?

Question for the experts on the board. Do Galil AR's, and ARM's use the same receiver? If not, what is the difference, and availability?
Thanks in advance.

They use the same receiver. You can purchase them from Ohio Rapid fire

Thanks for the reply. After more research I decided against a home build and ordered a Golani from www.Classicarms.us
I know it is a crapshoot with Century builds. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Good luck with your Galil. While some people have had problems with a Century Galil, mine has been perfect & fun to shoot. GARY N4KVE

Thanks for the encouraging words Gary.

I was going to build one also, but decided to just get a Golani from AIM.
I have headspace gauges and intend to check it as soon as it comes in.
Wish me luck!

I guess nobody wished me "luck". I got my Golani today and the first thing I noticed was the canted sight block. I checked the headspace and it was fine, barely closed on a "go" gauge with light pressure, so it's tight. Then I checked to see if both lugs were contacting by placing the bolt by itself into the locking recesses and pushing on it with a cleaning rod from the muzzle end, sure enought the tail end of the bolt swung to the right before both lugs made contact. The mags fit loose, with a good bit of play up and down, at the mag release. This one is going back. I may see if Century will take it back and send me a new one, preferably one with a later receiver, this was in the 1000 range if I remember right.
Wish me luck ! ;)

I got my replacement Golani back from Century. This one had the same problem as the first, bolt lugs contacting only on the right side recess. I put some cold blue on the lugs and worked the bolt a few times with a "snug" go gauge and the right lug came out shiny where it made contact and no evidence of contact on the left lug. I also noticed the handguard was a sloppy fit, so I took it off to see if I could do something to tighten it up. What I found was a bead of weld across the front of the retaining groove in an atempt to tighten it up. I'm calling it quits on this crap and am sending it back for a refund. I'll have to save my $$$ until I can buy the real deal.

How was the receiver marked and what was the serial number of this most recent one?

If you don't mind sharing, of course...

I haven't sent it off yet, it's out in my shop, but its marked on the left side
"Golani Sporter" and the rest of the CAI, VT stuff. The ser.# is GAL024xx. It is not one of the Hebrew marked rec. The first one I received and then returned was in the ser.# range of GAL010xx. It must have been one that was marked
"Galil Sporter". They had MILLED that info off and in the grove that was there, inserted "Golani Sporter" and so on. I am just not happy with my results, yours may vary. As much as I would like a "Galil", this is NOT a Galil, it is a "GOLANI".
Both had the "F" marked under the rec. in front of the mag indicating spring loaded firing pin, for me that was the "grade" I gave it.
Good luck

Todd, from this description, were these two rifles built by Century on ORF receivers or on some other receiver that Century has contracted for...?

Or can you tell...?
