View Thread: J&G kits

Has anybody bought a Galil kit from J&G? I was wondering what the condition was like.

could be a lot of variation from one to the other, but from what I've seen
wood handguards trashed
rear handguard support badly pitted
stock knuckle loose or izzy reweld/tighten
covered in grease
minor dents on sights and moderate dents on cocking handle knob.
plastic stock sleeve trashed.
however, nothing about them that would be unserviceable.
little sanding, new handguards, new stock plastic, some gentle straightening of the dents and they turn out pretty well.
I can't say they are in any better or worse condition than any other kits.
about the same as a south african FAL kit, for comparison.

Thanks for the reply. I know you know what you're talking about. I've seen some "new IMI" kits for around $800.00. In your opinion, are they worth the extra money?

I can't tell someone else what something is "worth" to them, but in favor a new kit, many of the kits have a gren mountain barrel. there have been some issues with some of them.
so its probably worth a hundred bucks more for an imi barrel.
then figure another 50 for the handguard, and 50 in small parts. do the "new" kits come with serviceable night sights? add another $80.
but once you start getting around the $2K range, finsihed, you might consider looking at a facvotry IMI.
I'ver always subscribed to the idea of having one gun I love, rather than 10 that I am not really happy with - and to pick what I want and save until I can buy it, rather than buy what I can afford this instant.
decision is yours, but these things may be something to think about.

Thanks again. I know what you mean. "Unfortunately" I have a safe full of "just had to haves".
