View Thread: front sight... help!

I,m new to this forum and the Galil rifle. My galil front sight windage is all the way left, yet it still shoots @ 2-4 inches left at 25 yds. Any suggestions? By the way it is a CAI Build on an ORF rec. The rifle functions great except for the sight issue.

Is your gas block obviously canted? It would be to the right looking at it from the rear.

That's what I was thinking. My only concern is once removing the roll pins to adjust the cant in the sight is if they will need to be drilled out and replaced with a larger roll pin so that the sight will remain true. This may also require a larger gas vent hole to be drilled to make up for the off set? I have also sent email to elite firearms for support. He is only five minutes from my house. Suggestions? Thanks.

I would try to use some CLP on the pin holes first to make sure they will come out easy.most of the time they should be knocked out from left to right.use a pin punch and hammer first.tap them easy at first then a little harder if tight. If they are too tight I would get a steel rod the same diameter of the pin punch and put it in the drill press and press them out.As a last resort, you can drill them out.You can also heat the area and knock them out. With the pins out wrap a towel around the front sight block and lightly tap the front sight block left and right with a hammer until it breaks free and moves, be careful, you don't want to bend it. If it doesn't loosen up and break free do the following:Soak the front sight Block in Break Free for a few hours or Use a plumber's torch or a cigarette lighter to heat the area then knock them out. When the Front Sight Block is loose enough to be moved left or right set it to the position you want, obviously if it is canted you want to set it straight. When you have it where you want it, lay the rifle on either side and get some one or some thing to hold the front sight block exactly where you wanted it.drill out the holes clean and install new pins,1/8"?

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound to menacing. I just don't want to turn this into something that I can't fix(creating a bigger mess). Will the gas vent hole still be in spec? Staight sights are great only if the rifle does't short stroke. The hole in the gas block is larger than the hole in the barrel? Thanks again for the reply.

Before you do anything go to the AZEX forum. I read there that the Green Mountain barrels sometimes have your problem. Hopefully it is not so for you...

Talked to Elite Firearms and he said he has a pile of bent Green Mountain barrels. Probably going to replace with a new IMI. Thanks for the help.

Send it back to Century and make them fix it. I've seen post after post about Century build problems, but pretty much every one stated that in the end Century fixed the mistake when the gun was sent back within a reasonable amout of time.
I built mine, ORF receiver-GM barrel-early 2007 parts kit and I can tell you that the press fit on the gas block is honeymoon night tight. If you don't have to mess with it, make Century fix it and save yourself some headaches. It's nothing like the press fit on a Romanian AK in my experience.
