Hi all!
In a few more weeks,(3-4) I will be set up to provide a service for all those who bought flats and can't bend them; i.e. I will bend them in the proper jig, (and guarantee the results). This is only for unmolested flats. I will also offer custom (reproduction) serial # to match your kits serial #, and will also offer front trunnion riviting, to match what the ruskies had. I do not have any pricing set up as of yet, but promise that all fees will be extremely fair and competitive, not to mention results guarenteed!
Give me a hollar if you'r interested, and we can discuss your wants

Sounds like a cool service. But you should post some pictures of a receiver that you bent.

Sounds neat. Are you a C2 FFL?

flc is right, pretty sure if you aren't C2, or something along those lines, you're jsut setting yourself up to get in trouble.

Once a flat is bent, does it become a reciever, or is there certain point that defines it has become one.

Once the flat is bent, it IS a firearm. The flat cannot accept any of the components for the fire control group, bolt/carrier, or barrel. Once it is bent, the fire control group can be installed, as can the trunnions and the bolt/carrier. Even if the lower rails aren't installed, the freshly bent flat is now a firearm.

The BATF considers the posession of a section of tube with the appropriate diameter and a Sten parts kit to be intent to build a machine gun whether there are any holes or slots in the tube or not. The flat is actually intended to be a receiver, and completion to the point where any parts can be installed means it is now a firearm. An ATF agent wouldn't need 2 seconds to declare that you are producing a firearm by bending a flat.

As long as the receiver gets a serial number and is transfered properly, there's absolutely no problem. The fact that the receiver would/could be numbered to match the trunnion is a nice touch.

Now for an interesting question. If the flat is not a receiver, bending it will make it an 81%+ complete receiver. Now, does that make it a U.S. made part even if the stamping was done elsewhere?

Personally, I am glad to see that someone is making an effort to make the flats useable. I'm sure a lot of these were turned into $30 paperweights by bad bending attempts. Good job!

So if someone bends your flat for you, then it has to be transferred back to you with a background check and all?

Legally yes. Also the person doing the bending must have a type 07 FFL as this would be considered manufacturing.

OJF,

Doing this for a friend, out the back door, no charge is one thing, but advertising such a service, for a fee on a internet forum is just begging for a heap of trouble.
