Anyone got some recommendations? I have a parts kit for a '74 and a DCI receiver I'm ordering.

MAGNUM GUNSMITHING, Glen does excellent work and is very reasonable. I don't use anyone else but Glen for my gunsmithing needs, there are too many hacks out there for me to take a chance on anyone else.

I will agree there are a lot of hacks out there, be careful. Jayson at Investment Grade Firearms just finished my build. When it arrives I will let you know how it looks. I have heard a lot of good things about him.

I heard a lot of good things about jayson as well......have never seen one of his builds from all indication he seems to be a good and honest gunsmith as well

+1 for Glen Riddle. It is never cheap to have a qualified smith put together a gun but Glens work is top notch. He did my Yugo 5.56/.223 and is currently working on my Bulgi side folder. I can hardly contain myself. :D

Any others? I want some alternatives should the democrats push the timeframe up on my build schedule. I don't want to have to rely on someone with 6 months of backlog, but neither do I want a doofus putting it together either.

the top notch smiths are always backlogged. you can always take your chance on some others, but there is a reason why they aren't backlogged.

Okay, but are any of the recommended FAL smiths capable of doing a good job for AKs? M&M, Sledgehammer, AZEX, etc.?
TheRedHorseman
AZEX does a great job.

AWMS Inc. in Ohio is a good place.

The owner, Mike Gray is a good guy to deal with. Service was very prompt (well, as prompt as you can when you have 4 snowstorms in as many weeks and a frozen parkerizing tank ;)) and my AK came back in Excellent form.

Got my Romy build back from Jayson at IGF. Very pleased. The front rivets are perfect. Nice mushroom shape and seated properly. The rear rivets are a little flat on the top but look nice. Jayson is easy to work with and will commumicate with you if there is anything he thinks needs attention. I did notice he seated the gas piston down tight to the bolt carrier before pinning, so if you want it backed out a bit you might want to let him know. I have four other kits on the way to him to be built. I'm very glad to have found a great quality smith like Jayson.
