I have 2 questions for everyone today! Firstly what is the bore diameter of the 7.62x54R SVD Dragunov's!? Are they .308 or .311 etc? I want to know because If I handload for one it might help to know lol plus Im curious.

Also what are the best spotting scopes out there? Im looking for one that can see small things at far ranges... like seeing bullet hols in targets at 500 meters and longer range... whats the best for the job? I've neve3r had any experience with spotting scopes but am now finally interested in them and would greatly apprciate info.

Has anyone ever tried VihtaVuori N150 powder in the 7.62x54r? What are some good powerds for 54r in a SVD? I was also told reloder 15 and 19 may work well... I want to make a MATCH accurate load in 54R thats my ultimate goal..

Thanks for reading this guys,
later

AFAIK 7.62x54 SVDs have .311 bores. I use a Yukon 100x spotting scope ($275) and it can pick out 7.62 Shoot-N-C holes at 500m but not on plain paper. My next choice for a spotting scope would be the IOR/Meopta Hermes I w/variable ocular. HTH...

Does anyone know if any outfit in the US plans to make some decent ammo in 7.62x54?...Any rumors or such?

Winchester has been for some time now, I think MSRP is about $15 a box

Thanks, Nickle, I was hoping they'd make a 150 or so grain for the SSG, but that would work for my SVT40.Guess I'll stay with the Wolf 148gr unless I can find some 7N14 somewhere..

DaWoof, aim had silvertip ammo for 80 bucks a can. theres a thread in the mosin nagant forum about silver tip ammo extraction problems, its got a link to aim and maybe you could answer some questions there about it. PE

I shot some of the Winchester 180 gr sp through my tiger. Velocity was around 2700 fps. Thats out of a 20 inch barrel. Had some blown primers. It loaded hot.

If you load for these, don't discount .308 bullets. Have been having pretty good luck with 168 gr match kings.

I have a couple of cans of silver tip ammo, but don't want to use it in my SVT40 as it's such a bugger to clean....It's fine in the Moisant. Just got a NDM-86, but is 7.62X51 Nato and from reading the threads here understand only match ammo should be used and Wolf 148gr in the SSG-97?...

That's nice to know. I've loaded some up w/ WC846 & the 168 Sierra's (.308, as thats what I had) earlier this week. Plan on trying them this weekend.

There's been a lot of claims that you should only use 150 (plus or minus) grain in the Dragunovs/RomAK 3/SSG-97. But then I hear a fair amount of folks having success with the heavier bullets. So, I say, use what works best in your gun. Don't be afraid to try stuff, as long as it won't hurt the gun.
