I would like some suggestions on my next purchase. I'm leaning towards the Romanian WASR 10. Any comments would be appreciated.

What do you have already and what are you looking for? I think I would get a SAR1 or SAR2 before I got a WASR.

ive always been a big fan of chinese aks. if its price that makes the wasr appealling i would keep an eye out for a post ban chicom. they both shoot and are fun recreationaly. the chicom's are nicely blued and have heavier receivers. ive had several chinese variants over the years and have never had a one that had a problem. good luck PE

Not sure what pricepoint your looking for but the SAM7 rifle from Arsenal Inc is one of the nicest AKs ever produced. I think they run about $600. These are built using a milled reciever and Bulgarian parts.

I have a SSR-85C from Global Trades aka Arsenal USA. It is a very nice rifle but not in production anymore. You can find both the B and C models up for sale on various auction boards. If possible get one with the Hungarian FEG reciever. These will run $500 plus.

I vote for the SA M7. I've owned just about every other AK there is (and my friends have owned the ones I haven't), and I consider the Bulgarian to be the best.

If you don't like the muzzle brake, you can always get the SA M7 Carbine. It has the shorter ComBloc stock and no muzzle brake like the Romanian SAR's.

Yes, they're expensive, but you get what you pay for and I've come to fully trust mine. I had a lot of problems with Romanians.

I think the Chinese are unbeatable. I have 4 MAK-90s, including a NIB milled one, and don't think anyone makes a better one. I've put about 8K rounds through my first, and had 3 failures (I think), not counting a batch of German reloads that failed about 1%. But I rework the thumbhole stocks to fit and keep them. I've never put a pistol grip on a MAK.

The others I've built, modified, or had modified. Several are modified Saigas, which make a nice light rifle that can be modified in a long evening or a short weekend, especially if you leave the forearm. And if you can give up the hi-cap magazines, you can make a .308 AK that does pretty good.

The nice thing about the AK is that they're available in about any way you want them.

Of course. Plus, the Bulgarians chrome the inside of the gas chamber (but not the gas tube).

Thanks, Ill buy one tomorrow. Which dealer do you recommend for a SAM 7 carbine?

SA M7 Carbine is ONLY distributed through Lew Horton's. They have a list of approved dealers on their website:

I think the Carbines are only produced around the first of the year and Lew Horton's may have run out. I just bought another one because I had waited since last September for it and my dealer (about 50 miles away) just got three in!

Good Luck!
