View Full Version : SKS Stock

I want to put a synthetic stock on my yogu sks. (purchase from dunhams) The stock I want is the collapsible type with pistol grip from tapco. Is this legal? or do I have to use us parts for compliance to do that?
Found this in a search, so instead of making a new thread I'll bump this one...
It seems that as long as you don't have detachable magazines, the SKS is not a "military" configuration, so you can put a stock w/ pistol grip on it? Or is the pistol grip enough to make it a "military" weapon subject to 922r? (I'm not putting this forth as an answer since I don't know...I'm asking the question myself.)
Yeah the second you have a pistol grip 922r is in effect.
Oh, that's sad. I think they look great with the pistol grip stock. So that means I'd have to take the gun apart and swap in more US-made parts to be good with 922r?
I guess I could just get thumbhole-style synthentic stock; that wouldn't trigger 922r, right? Thanks for the info.

Actually the pistol grip doesn't even count as a 922 compliant part on the SKS but the stock does. On the Yugo M59/66 SKS there are 15 original imported parts you can change out to make a Yugo legal once you remove one of those original imported parts.
On all other SKS rifle there are 14 because the Yugo is the only one with the grenade launcher and it's the 15th part on that rifle. So what you are doing is once you remove one of the original parts on the BATF list you also have to remove enough other original parts so that you only end up having 10 or less of the original imported parts on the rifle.
So for the Yugo you have to remove and replace 5 of the original listed parts with 5 US MADE parts on all other SKS rifle you have to remove 4 and replace 4 US MADE parts. Tapco sell the 922 compliant kits for both types of rifles. Only parts that come on the original rifle count, you can't add something that isn't there originally like the pistol grip and count it as one of you replacement parts.
The List of parts you can remove and replace
3. Muzzle attachment. Yugo M59/66 only
5. Bolt carrier.
6. Gas piston.
7. Trigger housing.
14. Magazine body.
This looks like it covers all the bases; thanks.
