hi everybody im kind of new here i was serching around for info on theses guns. i recently inherited my dads colecton of guns and in it was a svt 40, the rifle seems to be unfired and from 1945? i wanted to knowif it had import stamps where they would be? and everyone seems to talk about the serial numbers not matching on all of em where are all of them at exactly???and probably the queston just about everoyne asks how much is it worth? the stock and all the wood seems to be 100% and the bolt is kind of a purple color? the oly major flaw is it has a small spot of rust on the heat shield? any way any help you all could gve is much apricated!

Rust? Well...considering that flaw, i'll take it off your hands for $20.

ok its dated 1943, the saftey flips from left to right all the serial numbers match and there is a A stamped on the stock, and the end of the barrel as only 2 holes, and i oly could scroung up 12 rounds of 7.62x54 and there is still some room so i take it its a Avt40? i can barley find any info on it on line, and im afraid to fire it becouse it seems to be unfired any other distigushing marks that would make it a avt40? and if it is has anyone ever seen one or seen how much there worth? and thanks for all the info

I believe the plum colored bolt indicates an Arsenal refurb. Is ther any electro-penciled numbers, primarily on the Bolt charging handle, magazine and stock? they should at least correspond with the stamped serial number on the left side of the receiver by the breech area. Apparently before 1968, they were converting AVT-40s to semi auto.

Here is where i believe my Import number is.

ok my mistake it has only some electro-penciled on the triger guard and it apears that tihe original numbers were grinded off and they were put on but thats the only spot on the rifle

I've maybe put 150 rounds through mine since i got it. I Never fired one before i bought it, but man it is really nice. Well worth the money.

Well, i don't know what you have for knowledge on surplus ammo and such, but make sure you clean it and the gas piston/piston cup. It Will corrode fast and not look like an unfired rifle anymore.
