Ok, I tried the search function and nothing came up, so here it goes - Does anyone know if a SAR3 223 magazine would work in the Valmet 76 rifle? I just acquire a nice M76 but it only came with 1 -30 rounder. Thanks!!!

East German Wieger mags can be made to work in a Valmet-just grab your dremel and get set for a long nite-and a refinish job on the mag afterwards. The bulgarian 5.56x45 waffles were easier to convert-but they're as scarce as Valmet mags now! There was a guy who had a Valmet website who listed a vendor who sold modified Wieger mags but I don't recall his name-sorry-someone else may know.

I believe that Galil magazines will work in a .223 Valmet since they are the same thing but easier to obtain.

In the Valmet the Galil mags will sort of work. They fit the receiver but they sit at a different level. This can cause a dangerous doublr feed or at least jam up things.Sometimes they will work but not as well as Valmet mags.

Feed angle is likely different enough to jam the round into exterior edge of the chamber upon feeding.
This can cause the bullet to be seated much further down in the case than it should sit.
This will can cause dangerous over-pressure.
Sometimes the level of pressure is so great than it blows the gun to bits and sends pieces of the bolt into your face and/or brain.
Be very very careful. You just suggested a way to kill or maim an unknowing shooter and/or innocent bystander(s).
Use Galil mags ONLY IN GALILS unless they have been converted by a professional or you know what you are doing. And I mean...really...know what you are doing.

The nasty truth is that even Valmet factory 223 mags will stuff a bullet down in the case from the cartridge stubbing on the barrel face.
While the 223 Valmets are nice little rifles they leave a LOT to be desired for in the way of a functional combat ready rifle. THEY AREN'T.
In 223 they are interesting casual plinkers with above average accuracy.
In 7.62x39 they are extremely rare examples of the perfected AK47.
In 7.62x51 they are just freaks.

I have seen photos of a transferable full auto Valmet that was blown to bits from using Galil mags.
So far, I have never heard of a Valmet blowing up when using Valmet mags.

It isn't just from using galil mags.
What happens (and it happens with Valmet mags too, just not as often) is that the rifle will JAM because a round has stubbed up against the barrel face. The SHOOTER, if an IDIOT, will just rerack the same round into the barrel, not realizing that the bullet has been stuffed. Then when the trigger is pulled KABOOM.
