Looks like a nice little rifle, though I prefer the original stock. Is the rubber buttplate standard, or after-market?
Welcome to the site. It's a good place, free from a lot of the BS that seems to be infesting so many of the other boards lately. And we've got a lot of expertise here, too.
Take a look at the National AK Postal Match forum, and punch a target or two. You could enter with both the SKS and SAR. In January and February, anyone who would have entered would have won--so far, might be true for March too.
The SKS is purty, congrats on a nice looking SKS.
Good looking SKS. Nice Job.

Thanks, guys. Except for the bipod and AK sling, it's all original. I cleaned up the stock and rubbed it with tung oil. It may be too glossy right now but in time that will soften up. The only other things that I'm thinking of adding are Blackjack buffer and Mojo aperature rear sight.

Save your money on the sight. It's too far forward for a peep. If you want a peep sight, you need to mount it on the receiver cover, back near your eye.
I've never used a buffer on an SKS (though I have them on all my AKs). You can make a buffer out of a tire sidewall (bicycle tire is OK, lawn tractor or wheelbarrow tire is good, auto tire is OK but a little thick). In an AK, a buffer out of a sidewall will last over 1000 rounds. If you don't want to make your own, Blackjack is good.

I have a Blackjack buffer on order. My AK and handguns have Buffer Tech's.
Regarding the aperature sight, I have a Mojo on my AK, also mounted well forward, and it does help my aging eyes, bringing my POI's closer at 100 yds. I've been finding that the SKS is a better target shooter than my AK and I may find out that I won't need the aperature sight for it, and I do understand about rear mounted aperatures as my AR15 has it, then I added a Krager aperature front sight to enhance that. Thanks for your advice.
