The Senate has voted to extend the Assault Weapons Ban by attaching it to the bill protecting gun manufacturers from lawsuits.
House leaders are reluctant to vote on this, and speculate it could kill the entire bill.
AT ANY RATE...NOW IS THE TIME TO CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMAN IF WE EXPECT TO HAVE ANY CHANCE OF STOPPING RENEWAL OF THE ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN.

Nevermind!
The whole Senate defeated the entire bill, assault weapons ban extension and all, in a 90-8 vote.
This is encouraging: this means we have passed one big hurdle on the way to seeing the entire assault weapons ban expire.
Yippee! :laugh_sma

What happened? The reports I read Tuesday said that the Senate had passed the bill, 52-47. Someone's in error, someplace.
The AWB was attached as a rider in order to poison the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act...the AWB passed the Senate as an ammendment, but the Bill it was attached to was voted down almost immediately because of the AWB ammendment, the required gun lock ammendment, and the "gun show loophole" ammendment (ended private legal transfers of firearms without LE and/or an FFL middleman to oversee the transfer).
So basically, now the antigun groups know that they can pass a new Assault Weapons Ban bill through the Senate, they can pass a required gun locks bill through the Senate, and they can pass an end to private transfers of firearms through the Senate...either as an ammendment to another bill again, or as a standalone bills next seesion.

It doesnt matter, the AWB is dead, I've been saying it for a couple years, but no one pays attention...all you doomsayers out there....D.
And we have a BI Cameral legistlative process, and Frosty the Snowman will be running Hell the day the AWB makes it through the House.
