ammunition is going up 20%. i work in a gun shop here where i live in east tennessee and my boss says that of july 1, ammo costs are going to be going up about 20% because the metal and copper prices are going up as well.
not to mention that 762x39 is already hard to find here in tennessee!

I think the price is already high here in E. Tn. I hate to see it go up any more!I l live in the Knoxville area and most shops don't carry much in the way of AK's or surplus anything unless it's some copy of a black gun or something to hunt with your usaully left dealing with distributers from other states. Even the local gun shows are the same people peddlin the same stuff over and over, to tell you the truth I think most of their business is between themselves. Sure you can find a shop or two with somewhat of a clue but when you do, they want to overcharge so badly you walk around just shakin your head!I don't know what shop you work at Manix, but you might clue them into the facts like what to carry and how much to charge! It's pretty simple, get your products and prices in line and you'll do more turns and sell more merch., rather than tryin to get rich off 2 or 3 uninformed people that may happen to wander in!!!This area still suffers from the good ol' boy system of operation, if you know cousin Bubba who's related to your fathers sisters Ex wifes mother you can participate in the local govt. and help all your realitives and their wrecker services and gun shops keep it in the family.Thank God for the internet and places like The AK Files so a regular guy can get a fair deal.CD

Didn't we just hear this same crap with the, "you better buy a 4 to 8 year supply of ammo" thread, some other "new member" started a little while back..?
I think there was another one right after it that about "prices will be skyrocketing soon, so you better get it now @ $150+ a case while you can", that we were calling Bullshit on.
Why do we even grace these threads with replies? We all know they are bullshit scare tactics trying to get us to buy their over priced stock.

By the way, prices are ALREADY heading back down.

Do any of you think that Bubba at the gunshop is going to say "hey, don't buy this overpriced 7.62 now, there is plenty available, wait until we are sucking air and have to sell it" ? LOL. Nope, Bubba with the ammo table at the deer jerky / glass unicorn / eyeglass cleaning show is going to spread some inane rumor about raw material prices to increase his profit. Anyone here ever heard of something called "consider the source"? Some poor wankers are their own worst enemas.....or shilling for dealers. Prices are DOWN 20%. The problem is the sheeple among us, which are the majority, will read this self interested rumor started by some gunshow/gunshop profiteering codhead in Tennessee. Then said sheeple will start shitting themselves and bleeting and spreading said rumor causing panic buying yet again.
The wholesalers and dealers will laugh and laugh at the ridiculous sheeple and do like SG did and RAISE their 7.62x39 prices and profiteer while they can, as long as they can. At some point the sheeple will start to realize that the rumor mill cranked by the gunshops, dealers, wholesalers and their forum shills is unsubstantiated carnival barking bullshit. At that point we will be able to buy 7.62x39 for $100 a case. I perhaps discounted the intense greed, stupidity and naivete of some in my "$100 by August" prediction. If any of you think that the cost per metric ton for steel or brass or copper, etc., has risen so much as to cause AMMO to go up 20% needs to put the pipe down. As long as you are a sheeple there will be someone there to sheer you.

Let me see if I can understand. You work in a gunshop in Tennessee and your boss, who makes money when ammo prices go up said that ammo prices will go up as metal and copper prices are going up as well? I guess he's a gunshop owner AND floor trader on the commodity market floor on an exchange in Chicago or NY? Busy guy. Where did HE get this info? Magic Eight ball? A vision? Saw it in the bottom of an Old Milwaukee tall boy can? A Latvian selling glass unicorns at the last gunshow? This is what I think of your post:

I know a gay fashion designer that says ammo prices are going to increase 50% by the new year!!!!
Update:
Ooops, sorry he said cAMMO prices. He's worried about fabric costs for his new line of queer wear.

Hey guys lighten up! He may be a plant, or he may be just a new member. We been hearing this up/down crap forever. Me? I dollar cost average my ammo. When the prices are low I buy a lot, when higher I buy a little. This way I always have some.

p.s. The new Midway flyer lists Wolf Military Classic at $129.00 per K. As of 30 minutes ago it wasn't in yet. The operator said ETA is July 22. I asked if that was a guaranteed price, she replied "No because it isn't in yet, but it shouldn't change much, if at all."

Every idiot that hangs at a gun shop and then buys things there is a complete fool.
7.62x39 will come down in price................... don't let these store bought idiots tell you something else...........remember they normally have a huge overhead, hence the mark up.
Go to the gun shows and buy from ammo wholesalers.
When I worked at a gun shp for a brief period of time 15 years ago, I told the owner this.....................
If you sold your ammo at cost, you would get 10x the customers in here and then they would buy more guns and accessories............
He tried it and was blown away by the amount of increase in sales.
But it is hard for a penny pinching asswipe hell bent on rippn off fellow shooters to drop his price on a box of 7.62x39 to $1.05 a box.
Imagine that guys..................$1.05 a box for 20 rds of 7.62x39.....would you go to that gun shop more often????
So I say to these freakin turd/tards go sell your stuff marked up 75% I hope your business folds......................that way, when you need money the local gunguys can give you a heartfelt F&%#K YOU !

What's wrong with pricing shooters out of their sport and hobby? Aint that a good long term bid'nez plan?

I do 95% of my gun and ammo trading online due to the gun-shops charging me an arm and a leg to keep their store in business. I'm sure that the industry is going to do whatever it thinks it can get away with to make a killing.
That being said, the U.N. is actively trying to end the exports and imports of milsurp items, PLUS we have the upcoming elections... do you thing a Democrat or Republican will be the next president.
Do what you want with this opinion of mine. As for myself, I prefer to have what I need NOW, rather than after a new executive order banning certain items.

Manixmdz, before you start spreading ridiculous rumors that hurt all of us (except your boss) we would appreciate you checking them out. I checked the facts on this today, which took all of about 10 minutes, and discovered that your post is silly bullshit. Print this and give it to your boss. Here's some background:
Two weeks ago SG had Wolf Classic for $113 / 1000. Then, the rumors started, the sheeple stampeded, and SG upped their price to almost $160 / 1000 (a $47 increase or 40% increase). The "raw materials" Wolf Classic is made of is primarily steel with a copper WASHED bullet (i.e., case, bullet, lead core, copper WASH on the 124 gr. bullet).
Copper Prices
First, lets look at the ridiculous notion that "high copper prices" are causing Wolf to go up. Today copper is at $3.32 / lb. Last year it was at about $1.75 / lb. So, copper has gone up about $1.50 in the last year per pound. Copper rides about 7 year cycles. There aren't "shortages" of the stuff on earth, they just mine the shit out of it, store it and sell it. If they constantly mined it the price would get so low as to cause losses. Wolf uses a copper WASHED 124 gr. bullet. So, if a pound of copper has gone up a whole $1.50 USD in the last year, then I wonder how many 124 gr. bullets one could wash with a pound of copper? I'd say you could WASH thousands of 124 gr. bullets with a pound of copper. BTW, there are 7000 grains of copper in a pound. So, being liberal and allowing waste, Wolf probably uses 1/3 a pound of copper to copper WASH 1000 124 gr. bullets. That would mean that this "increase in copper prices" now costs Wolf a whopping 50 CENTS MORE in copper costs today to produce 1000 rounds over last year.
Steel
The largest amount of "raw material" used in a Wolf Classic round. Steel is cheap. Steel is up about $60 a ton per the AMM Market Index in Chicago over last year (since June 2005) but actually even or down against the same period in 2004. I think in 2004 Wolf was selling for $69 / 1000. A case of Wolf Classic weighs 40 lbs. counting the box, tissue, staples, primer, powder, little boxes, glue, ink on the box. If steel is now $60 more a TON, then it is 3 CENTS more a pound (there are 2000 pounds in a ton). That means that due to the "increases in raw material prices" a thousand rounds of Wolf, packaged and to your door, cost $1.20 more this year to make due to the "high cost" of steel. So, add the extra $1.20 per thousand for steel to the extra 50 CENTS per thousand for copper and that "commodity" theory accounts for an extra $1.70 cost increase to make a thousand rounds of Wolf Classic over last year.
So, here is the breakdown of the cost increases for the moronic "raw material and copper increase theory":
Increase in copper cost per 1000: .50
Increase in steel cost per 1000: 1.20
Total increase in "raw materials": 1.70 per 1000 rds. of Wolf Classic
So, what explains the $47 to $100 price increase per 1000 rds. of Wolf Classic? Panic buying, rumor mongering, and silly buying behavior. Refuse to buy this ammo for a price greater than say, $115 /1000 and I guarantee the prices will get less than that. Continue to believe the ridiculous rumors spread by nitwits and dealer shills and the price gouging will continue for a bit longer.
Note: Lead (bullet core) is so cheap that I'm not counting it and nobody raised the issue of increased propellant price increases as I doubt there are any.
