View Thread: 5.45 Ammo availability

I am new to AK's and recently picked up one of the recently discontinued Arsenal SLR-105's (great deal by the way, $396 shipped from onpoint firearms, it is the post-ban config but for that price i wasnt too bothered). I am noticing the pretty scarce availability of ammo in 5.45, but it also seems that 7.62 is dried up a little bit also these days. Anyone have any theories as to the longevity of the supply line for surplus or new 5.45 ammo....will we still be able to get it at reasonable prices for years to come? Is the current scarcity an anomoly. Appreciate any insight.

Recently there has been a shortage of both calibers. However, this situation has dramatically changed and will continue to over the next 6 months. The market over the past few weeks is flooded with 7.62. A BUNCH more is waiting to clear customs. 5.45 has been available in the form of real Soviet 5.45 (Kvar). However, I will pass on this stuff - I just don't want to deal will corrosive primers. Like 7.62, market will be shortly flooded with Wolf 5.45. Just put your order in to SG and wait if corrosive primers arnt your thing.

Hi and welcome to the board :)
will we still be able to get it at reasonable prices for years to come?
that's like asking how many licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop......no one can guess at what will happen to ammo availability or price next year......let alone years from now. as for the shortage, ammo is slowly trickling in, unless you are completley out of rounds, and want some to shoot in the next few days or so, there are places that sell the 7n6 military ammo. DAN's ammo has them, it's like 159 bucks for a little more then 1,000 rounds....... I would wait until the mad bum rush of people jumping in as ammo starts geting in stock, and wait until more becomes available at more places, and the supply stablilizes somewhat, so you can shop for the best deals. you can pre-order from sportsman guide, for 1,000 rounds of WOLF FMJ 5.45 at 129 bucks.....that is suppose to get here at the end of the month.....BTW 129, a very good price for 5.45.
5.45 has always been more then 7.62.

Ammoman.com has the 7N6 for $179 for a can (1080 rnds). That includes shipping. I think thats a little cheaper than K-Var.

That depends on where you live
For me KVAR was cheaper

As of today, Ammoman.com has Wolf Military Classic 5.45x39 in stock for $99/500 or $179/1000 delivered. Not cheap - but available!

Here comes the flood

Looks like the 5.45 they have is JHP, not FMJ. I e-mailed them and they said Wolf shipped the wrong stuff. They're going to get back to me...

Did Eric indicate when the FMJ will be there ? I'm dying for a case too.

Turns out what Ammoman has actually is FMJ, but I won't be ordering any from him - not now or ever. His customer service folks told me (via e-mail) that Wolf had sent them the wrong stuff. When I e-mailed to cancel my order and inquire when FMJ might be available what followed was a string of abusive and condescending e-mails from Eric, the upshot being that he clearly didn't want my business.
I've been a long-time customer of ammoman.com, and while I'd heard customer service horror stories regarding them from time to time I've never had a problem with an order, so hadn't (until now) contacted them personally. Well... now I have. What a way to run a railroad!
I'll be holding out until someone else (anyone else) can supply my ammo needs.
