.....pun indended :wink_smal LOL
Until this Sept (knock on wood), theAMD stock needs to be "permamently fixed" in the open position. Many have welded their stocks, but I've read that to be legal, one merely has to prevent the stock from being able to fold without the use of tools. So here's my idea........
The latch "button" is actually a bolt that threads into the latch "lug" from the bottom. What if you remove the button/screw and replace it with a shorter bolt that both threads into the"lug" and bottoms out inside the rear trunnion (picture a miniature caliper bolt, design). No amount of pushing in on the bolt would release the latch (assuming the bolt is bottomed out), it would require you to use a tool to unscrew the boltand it would be easilly reversable, come Sept. I've seen people simply disable the latch on E.German & Romainian side folders and it's *ASSUMED* that it's "legally fixed open". If it's legal on those....doing the same should also be legal on an AMD. Kinda like the washer on the fal folders.
Any thoughts???

You and I are on the same page here. I was planning on cutting a new screw for mine. I am considering running it up inside the trunion so as to eliminate the button altogether... just a bolt with a large shank and enough thread that when you locked it down tight you "latched so to speak. you could also go the "washer" route... a simple spacer that would fit under the head of the button would prevent you from folding much like the FAL's . I'll post pictures of what I decide to do on my build it at home page when I get that far.

5 mm bolt I think.

Yeap.....exactly what I was planning. I was gonna take the existing bolt/button up to Lowes and try to find a match (5mm BSN? Thanks...I'll try that size).
BUT..........the $1,000,000 question. Is such a mod. considered a legal way of altering a folder as to no longer fold????

IF (very large if) this is legal, then the Romanian folder could be made legal by replacing the front screw with a longer one. This screw would extend down blocking the release from moving forward to release the folder. And it would take a screwdriver (and a replacement screw) to make it fold. Just a note.

Most of the people (including myself) who built AMD-65's on gunsnet just used a hex cap screw and didn't drill the hole on the receiver. Since my rear trunnion is screwed on, and when the AW bill sunsets, I will just unscrew the rear trunnion, put the original hardware in, and drill that hole for the folder. I don't think the ATF is as picky about folding stocks as they are about muzzle attachments, but I could be wrong.

washer under the head of the original bolt. takes a tool to change it, so...
