I see Centerfiresystems has sten kits now. Semiautosten.com had conversion kits, but they're sold out. Has anyone here built a semi-auto sten from a kit? I'd like to know how involved it is and if there are any good resources on the web that might help me out. Also, I think I remember seeing a site that sells 16" sten barrels but I forgot where.

Thanks mike that's exactly what I was looking for!
Valkyrie Arms makes complete semiauto MK II and III Stens (MK V coming soon) in limited numbers. That would be a good working example to follow if you can find someone who owns one.

BTW, CatCo has their old semiauto Sten MK II manufacturing/tooling setup available for sale, if you feel like going into business. $50,000 for the whole setup.

CATCO is selling all the tooling for 50K. Just imagine, you could corner the market on semi - auto stens.

no matter which route you take, please realize that more people have gotten in trouble with the sten gun than any other design.
if you are bent on doing a home made version up, i would advise you follow the batfe approved design plans to the letter...and keep an approval letter with the firearm at all times.
i love the sten in full auto.
good luck and enjoy it!

Thanks for the input Campybob... was there anything specific about homebuilt stens that people were getting busted for?

There is a semi-auto closed bolt kit on Sturmgewehr 2-28-04 for sale for 250$. It is a closed bolt design works with mk3 kit. They do take a little mechanical skill. Also if your interested try sten9mm group on Yahoo groups. The designer of sas3 contributes there alot. Any questions can usually be answered by the group promptly.
