View Full Version : Screwing trigger guard: conventional method?

So how are most of you screwing on your trigger guards? Are you just tapping the receiver shell, or are you putting nuts on the backside? I figured on tapping the receiver and using lock-tight but the 8-32 tap doesn't grab any metal on my OOW receiver. 10-32 are way too fat (the holes would get too close).

Thanks,
Byron

One of mine is done with a thicker plate inside the rec. - that thicker plate is tapped for the 8-32 screws. The other one I have uses 8-32 screws with locknuts inside the frame. Bothe work well and neither interferes with mags or FCG.

Hey Jim (or anyone else),

How thick a plate did you use inside the receiver?

Looks to be less than 1/8 in. - maybe 0.096 thick? Dn't know what "gauge" it is - just a piece of scrap I had sitting around. Plenty thick enough to thread for 8-32 screws.

The only one I've screwed in was on a Saiga conversion. I think I used 10-32 screws and nuts. Wouldn't a plate catch the rear of the trigger, lifting it up? I worked on putting a plate under the trigger to left the rear, in effect "pulling" the trigger a little to reduce the amount of creep. I thought about .080" thickness would be a good thickness. You could put a plate in there to do double duty. Be careful--a short trigger pull and a smoothed trigger could be a dangerous combination.

"Screwing trigger guard: conventional method?"

Unless you're in to that S&M stuff. Or whipped cream and cherry pie filling.

Has anyone ever tried nut plates? They are made out of sheet metal and hold up pretty well on autos. They are available at auto parts stores.

The nutplates are a good idea. Only actual testing would tell if they would hold and not loosen up. I did like jimmieZ, metal plate and 8-32 screws. It seems to hold plenty tight , but hey, I'm not done yet with my build and only time will tell. Good luck.
