a polish tantal or a bulgarian fixed black furniture setup?

what do you guys think? pros and cons please :-)

overall, which of the two countries make a better ak for quality?

between the 2 its a toss up to me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,as i only have a tantal kit and no bulgies,and both are of excellent quality. I cut my build teeth on a 59 buck amd-65 kit because it was $59(now they're worth what?) and that was all i was out if i screwed it up! if i was you ,I,d buy a cheap romy kit to practice on.

They are both good 74's.The Bulgarian has standard parts such as gas tube,hand guards,sights and the hardware that retains them.The Polish has an AKM rear trunnion and 14mm LH muzzle threads.The Bulgarian is closest to the Russian 74 and small parts may be more available.

I think the Bulgarian is higher quality.But maybe not functionally.The finish is better and I think Bulgaria makes the best AK barrels.Poland had ongoing product improvement program goin on with the Tantal but not sure that helped the quality or just added features.The newest Tantals went with a heavier non-ribbed receiver cover.The Russians also changes the Receiver cover to a heavier non ribbed one.The Bulgarians all still have the standard AKM receiver cover.

I vote for the tantal. The quality on Wolfsburg Bob's kits is way way above average, and the design is just freaking neat! When you put the parts next to a stock romy "G" AKM you can really see the results of the polish product improvment program. The bulgarian would be a high quality standard AK. The tantal is a high quality "evolved" AK.

Between those 2 I would do the Tantal. You didnt mention it but the Bulgy AKS74 is another one to consider....right now Ohio Rapid Fire has the mis-matched AKS for $229 and many are shipping out as matched kits right now....the last 2 I just recently got are matched. Best deal out there IMO.

I would say do the AKS based on availability, the Tantals have only been in country for about a year, AKS's are going out the door as to availability. Get the AKS now, they get the tantal later. -myers
