View Thread: Misinformation About Clear Magazines

K-VAR
There has been some false information posted on the internet and I would like to post some facts to clarify what has been stated.

On the left “the other guys” magazine, on the right K-VAR’s quality magazine.

Our magazines have reinforcement ribs that wrap around the front and back of the magazine.
http://k-varcorp.com/forums/post_1.jpg
Our magazines have a rib that runs the length of the magazine, improving its durability and the ruggedness of the design.

Again a full picture would be better, in order to distinguish differences, it appears there is a slight difference in the design of the lips.
http://k-varcorp.com/forums/post_3.jpg
Our magazines waffle pattern wraps around the sides of the magazines and again there is a raised ridge along the side.

I’m not sure of what this “Bluejack” persons intentions are or where he purchased these magazines but, he DID NOT purchase them from K-VAR. Our clear waffle pattern magazines are mil-spec. brand new, unissued, and will not crack unless deliberately misused. The picture of the magazine he posted is clearly made from an inferior material; our magazines are created using the latest manufacturing technologies and materials which produces a magazine that meets all military specifications and is currently being used by the military in more then half a dozen countries.

The magazines he is attempting to portray as ours are in fact NOT FROM K-VAR. I do remember many years ago that another company did import and sell some experimental non-mil-spec magazines. The magazines were labeled experimental because they have not gone through the complete process of development and have defiantly completed the process of becoming mil-spec

We do not believe the following is a valid problem with the clear magazines.

“GlennAK” should be aware that the reasons for his complications are not the fault of our magazines. After reading some of his posts it has become clear to me that he is making a judgment about bolt carriers based on misinformation. The magazine issues that he is experiencing may be a direct result of the way the magazine sits in the receiver, the bolt carrier used, and/or improper assembly. I would suggest that he examine his bolt carrier using the pictures below for reference. I have personally spoken with John at Arsenal Inc. and he has stated that if GlennAK is willing to send in the rifle, since he lives here in Las Vegas, he will inspect the rifle and give a complete report on its specifications to determine the problem that is occurring with his rifle.

I had some fitting issues with the clear mags I just bought from K-VAR. The 30 rounder was a little tight and was causing my bolt to hang on the feed lips. It was worse on the 20 rounder, with it being really difficult to insert and latch in place. I ended up having to file down the lips a little before it would fit properly.

The problems I experienced with the clear mags was not with an Arsenal SA M-5. My rifle is not even made by Arsenal. It is a 5.56 Krinkov that was built by Ohio Rapid Fire. It is probably the reason why I had fitting issues, but I wasn't the only one. Ive heard of at least another person having similar problems. I don't remember who.

Geeko9mm,

I haven't done it. You can by grinding down some of the metal in the side/front part of the mag and fit it, but I don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to, because you may have some issues with reliabilty if not done right. Same goes for grinding the mag well. Don't want to do that either.

I will build future 5.56 AKs to accept Wieger mags, but I will not modify my 5.56 Krink, or my Wieger mags to fit it. I'll just buy more black 5.56 waffles from K-VAR when they arrive. If I can get more, then I'll consider buying an SAM5 before the supplies dry up and prices go through the roof.

You can also build a SAM5 clone by using a Firing Line receiver, a 5.56 barrel, bolt, and bullet guide which you can buy from K-VAR. You can also buy their 5.56 bolt carrier and gas piston, but a 7.62 one will also work with the 5.56 bolt. The rest of the parts can come from a 74 kit.

It’s funny to think that a lot of people and some professionals do not realize that there is a difference between the different caliber bolt carriers. You can not use a 7.62x39mm bolt carrier for a 5.56x45mm rifle without experiencing problems. Just because someone has a computer and knows how to type, does not mean that they are an expert.
There is a special groove cut into the 5.56x45mm bolt carrier that allows it to pass through the magazine lips and chamber a round. A 7.62x39mm bolt carrier used on a 5.56x45mm rifle will not reliably pass through the lips of the magazine, instead it will crash into the lips of the magazine. This will cause damage to your magazine and may render your rifle useless. AK parts are specifically design to be used for specific calibers, it is always better to have the correct components in your rifle.

Will these magazines work in Chinese (Norinco) 5.56 rifles?

I think the Paid Invoice begs to differ, but what do I know?

robdog
was this ever resolved?

K-VAR
This issue has been fully resolved.

Back in November 2004, we received a shipment of clear 5.56x45mm waffle pattern magazines from Arsenal of Bulgaria. Unfortunately, all of the clear magazines in that shipment have been sold. It has been brought to our attention that a small percentage of the clear magazines we received, were of an old variation made from a mold similar to that of the black polymer magazines. After a few conversations with Bulgaria we were informed that we received one-hundred or so transitional magazines that were mixed up in the shipment. We were unaware that these transitional magazines were in our shipment of clear waffle pattern magazines and that they had gone out to customers.

How strong and durable are the newly designed clear waffle pattern magazines? We decided that it would be in our best interest to attempt to find out.

We took one of our clear waffle pattern magazines and placed it on the asphalt outside behind a Toyota Avalon weighing approximately 4,800 lbs. We instructed the driver to back up the vehicle slowly and go over the magazine. To my astonishment, the magazine did not brake, it didn’t even crack, nothing happened to it. Maybe the Toyota Avalon doesn’t weigh enough.

We then decided to place the clear waffle pattern magazine behind the tire of a Lexus SUV weighing approximately 6,500 lbs. Again, we instructed the driver to back up the vehicle slowly and go over the magazine. As the vehicle was coming off of the clear magazine, I heard a plastic cracking sound. I was extremely amazed that the magazine still did not break, it did not even crack. The sound I heard was of the magazine hitting the ground after popping up as the tire went over it. The only damage that was actually done to the magazine during this ordeal was a few dents in the body. The dents were caused by little rocks and pebbles on the asphalt, I guess we should have sweep a little before we tried this. Frankly, I’m shocked that one tiny rocks underneath the magazine did not cause the magazine body to fracture under the pressure.

As you can very clearly see, K-VAR’s magazines are very strong and very durable.

In the event, you recieved some of the transitional magazines and do not wish to keep them. Please send them back to K-VAR with your reciept. If you do not have your reciept, please provide us with as much information as possible regarding you purchase.

Faithless
I noticed you ran over mags jammed full of ammo, was that to help them stop the 2 ton monster you rolled over them, from breaking them? I hope that didnt sound cocky, just wondering.

K-VAR
The magazines are empty. The pictures do not do the event justice. In the second from the last photo the SUV actually sat on the magazine for a minute.
