View Full Version : receivers
I was checking on the receivers from Harlan at Nodak Spud and it says they come without top rail step down and without lower left rail mag guide. Could someone explain please? He has them in stock and I,ve been waiting for my Ewbanks recievers for two months and my Global receiver for way longer than that so I,m getting impatient and was going to try these.

The factory AK receivers have a small step in the top rails. It's not really needed and many American made receivers don't have them .The magazine guides on the lower rails are just to guide and stabilize the magazine.Shouldn't really be needed if receiver has dimples or spacer blocks beside the magazine.
It looked like the receiver had a dimple on the side you could see but I wasn't sure if the other side had one or not or if thats what they meant or if there was supposed to be something else there. Thanks

I think they are dimpled. With the dimples the lower rail magazine guides aren't really needed. They are just extensions on the lower rails that keep the magazine from wobbling side to side. They would be just above the dimples. The European AK's have a very slight step in the upper rails to help guide the bolt carrier.I'm not sure the Chinese receivers have the upper rail steps.

In this photo you can barely see the upper rail has a shallow step and the lower rail has an L or C bent at it's bottom just above the dimple.

Thanks you guys, Its nice to have a place to ask questions and get good solid answers, I appreciate the responses.

The Global receivers have the step down rails. By having step down rails, you have less wobble in your bolt carrier. The "Premium" AKM recievers that DCI is supposed to be selling in the next few months or so will have step down rails.
