I've been giving it some thought as to what I'm gonna do with this AMD 65
My barrel is 16-1/4"(of course not original) so either I've got to get the longer gas piston or weld the gas hole and turn the barrel down and back. It's a nice tight, clean barrel(.2995 across the lands). The sure fire way to weld it would be to jig it up to prevent bending and weld it shut with oxy-acetylene but that puts a lot of heat on it and may pop the chrome inside. I also have stick and mig, don't think I want to use stick and buzz box so that leaves the wire feeder. I'm a decent welder but the thought of a plug of metal blowing out of the barrel ain't that appealing. The reason for my pondering is,using the shorter GP reduces the reciprical weight of the BC,probably not that much but every little bit counts. What IS the recommended way to weld up a gas port?

I weld them by swedging a FMJ bullet down the tube positioned at the gas port then mig the hole shut by building out the walls of the hole, not just plugging the hole with a blob of weld.I try to NOT touch the swedged FMJ with weld if possible.

Sounds like a plan!
