Do any of you own the Hesse made AK-74, that are built on Bulgarian kits, that are being sold by FAC for approximately $310? I know Hesse has a TERRIBLE reputation for quality in the past.
Please let me know if you have anything to say about these rifles.
Thanks,

as i understand it from that um other ak board some users over there have them. they are are built on hesse akm recivers so the mag well size is off. lots of mag problem due to this. lots of ejection problems due to an under sized ejector and the fact hesse didn't heat treat them. they are super soft. look elsewhere you might wanna get a kit from fac and an OOW reciver and put it together.

The mags need to be filed in the upper rear area to fit properly, and this takes maybe 10 minutes to do. For some reason, some bakelite mags have a "ramp" in that area and others don't. One other thing to pay attention to is the ejector. It is not hardened and will eventually erode away. This can be corrected by tig welding. They are descent rifles that need a little work to get the bugs out.

FAC no longer offers this Vulcan Arms rifle.
I believe that JoeKen has these at a special price.

joeken sells them and Fac doesn't.
that says a few things.
1. Fac doesn't like to sell crap
2. joeken doesn't mind
i'll have to buy my 74 kit from you harlan.
I bought one and sent it back. Advice:
DO NOT BUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the responses I'm getting, it sounds like hesse can even screw up an AK. Unvbelievable!

Not as bad as the .223 AKs built by Hesse, but still a piece of crap.

I bought one for sh*ts'n'giggles, but I wouldn't do it again. Dremeled out the mag well, changed stocks and finished w/ alumahyde so it's not all that bad. I guess?
