If its preban you can sell it to us. If its post ban no. As for putting the preban ones in postman guns, im still trying to get it straight nowhere in the law does it mention it being illegal but ask any LEO and they'll tell u it is...

There is no such animal as a "hi-cap AK mag". That is an antigun term, and is a legal fiction.

Any steel AK magazine is "pre-ban" and can be shipped to some parts of NY.

but ask any LEO and they'll tell u it is...Don't talk to the police.

They can lie to you, and then arrest you after you've acted on their lies.

Ask a lawyer instead (or at least read the law for yourself - it's available online)

Yes, pretty much any AK mag can be shipped to and used in New York State outside of NYC. The only exceptions would be OBVIOUS post-94 mags such as Promag, Tapco, US Palm, Bulgy "bullet" mags, ect.

Surplus steel and bakelite 7.62, and steel and poly/bakelite 5.45 mags are generally all considered pre-ban.

The only grey area mags would be Bulgy waffle circle 10's. There are both pre-94 examples and post. But they are not dated in any way, so for all realistic purposes they are allowed too.

Most big distributors won't sell mags to NY just because they don't feel like dealing with the hassle of learning the above "rules" and I guess I don't blame them. But for private sales, people should not worry about it. Basically, surplus=ok. New production=not ok. Despite the NYC-dictated gun laws, most of NY is rural and fairly gun friendly. There are no state JBT's running around enforcing mag laws. We are basically PA with a big, cancerous tumor on our southeast corner.

There are steel commercial Bulgarian magazines with polymer followers too that I think are post ban. AIM Surplus used to sell them.

They are undated as far as I can tell though.

I seriously doubt it.

The Bulgarians haven't produced a steel magazine since the '70s.

Old stock steelie with new follower? I'll go with that.

Probably the above. As I said, it's not dated, so you are good.

If it makes you feel better, I live in NY and own several of of those mags that I got from Copes a year or two ago. I've yet to have my door kicked in by the mag police.:)

Please look it upin your State/City code. They are considered the same as a silencer. Preban refers to items in your possession befor x date.
I would look t for you, but just do a search under your Sate/City code...

That works for legal purposes.

It was in brand new condition wrapped in a clear bag with a "made in bulgaria" sticker all soaked in oil.

The steel has a matte black finish on it, one that doesn't match any other communist steel AK mags I have ever seen, plus it feels a tad thinner.

Hungarian tanker mags are shipped / sold the same way (except their sticker says "Made in Hungary").

Believe me, no commies have made steel 7.62x39 AK mags since the '70s. They've all got millions in storage from the decades of AK-47/AKM production.

Not true it would be uninforcable. I can buy a preban rifle in nys or out of state with say a bayo, front grip, under folder with a drum if I wanted and posses it and obviously I didn't buy it when I was 4 years old. But year a search of that states laws is a good idea...

I'm a NYS resident, and formerly worked in a gunshop as thier gunsmith. Part of what I did was shipping and receiving. I have to inform you that you are wrong.

In NYS we can have hi-caps. They must be pre-ban mags. That is the reason why post ban mags have thier birthdate stamped on them here.

The gunshop I frequent these days sells AK, AR and M14 mags all the time.
