I just recieved my 7.62X39 tracers today. I went to the range and tried them out, very cool. the seem to last between 250yds and 300yds. Good fun for target blasting, of course the darker the better.

Tracers are for seeing where your rounds go--but in my opinion if you can see it go out,if you are in a combat situation--the other side can also see it coming,thus pin pointing your position.I the Nam you could always pretty much tell the good guys from the bad,by the color of their tracers,in a fire fight.

Coolest thing I've seen with tracers was some of the guys at Knob Creek's night shoot would load their belts with alternating red & green. Very festive! :-)

Actually, no...

the COOLEST thing I've seen with tracers was a .30 cal GE Minigun with about every 6th round tracer. Looked like a crazy bending laser beam ... and sounded like a cross between a chainsaw and a locomotive!
